4.INDEX PROPERTIES OF SOIL

Soil has following important index properties

      1.Density index / Relative density:

  

                                       e- original Voids ratio of soil

        

       2.Flow Index:

                                             

                                     w1- water content Corresponding to n1 blows

                                     w2- water content Corresponding to n2 blows

       3.Plasticity Index:

                   The Difference netween liquid limit and plastic limit is called                                 plasticity index

       4.Toughness Index:

                  The ratio of Plasticity index to Flow index is called Toughness index.

     

                         

       5.Consistency Index: ( Resistance to deformation)

                  The ratio of liquid limit(WL) minus water content(w) to that of                               plasticity index is called consistency index(PI)

                                        

       6.Liquidity Index:

                    The ratio of water content(w) minus plastic limit(Wp)  to that of                              plasticity index is called Liquidity index(PI)
